"Red Road" Life-Size Steel & Ceramic Tile Sculpture by William Rogers (Navajo)
72.5" x 29" with Base 16" D x 24.5" W

William “Billy” Rogers comes from a long family line of artists of different mediums. After retiring from the Albuquerque Fire Department, he found his new calling as a full-time artist. Since then, his large-scale, stylized, stainless steel sculptures have gained a huge following.

William Rogers creates his sculptures by initiating with the welding of a metal form, meticulously cutting, bending, and welding it into shape. Following this, concrete is poured into the form, establishing the foundation of his creation. 2024 marked the inception of powder coating, a new technique he embraced. With a base in place, he infuses vibrant colors using durable tiles, each one meticulously hand-cut and placed. The adornments—regalia, jewelry, feathers—are painstakingly crafted from metal, tile, and occasionally semi-precious stones like turquoise and coral. Finally, after a thorough inspection and any necessary touch-ups, the piece is primed for display.
